Do you know what you need and want?

So many people tell me that they do not know what they want and need. They just don’t know or they are not sure and secure in their knowing. Knowing exactly what you want and need is the first step in getting what you want and need. Otherwise, you do not have a chance!

In order to know what you want and need, you must listen to the correct answer. Listening to your ego and brain does not “grow corn.” Your ego leads you to more control, anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. On the other hand, listening to your heart and body grows sweet, delicious corn. You are happy and satisfied when you follow your heart. Spring is the time to plant the correct seeds so you have a good harvest in the fall.

This means you must learn how to bypass your brain and listen to your heart, emotional self, and body. A simple question like, “What do I really want to eat for dinner?” can make the difference between being grumpy and feeling happy. Getting the correct answer can make the difference between successful, permanent weight-loss and failure.

If you already know what you need and want, make a list now before reading any further. Your list can range from food for dinner, to your dream vacation, a new job, or healthy relationships. After you write down your desires and needs, examine each one to make sure the source is from your heart.

When you listen to your heart and body you have the potential to experience pleasure and health. Your body wants to be healthy and your emotional self wants to be happy. They rejoice and respond when you give them what they need and want. Weight-loss and success become easier and more fun.

How do you get the correct heart-felt answer?

1. You stop thinking.
2. Take three deep breaths.
3. Ask your question.
4. Listen.
3. Honor the answer.

If you listen deeply and allow the answer to come to you instead of deducting it, it is from your heart. For example, ask your body what it wants to eat. Listen and receive the answer. The answer may come in words, sensations, and colors.

Ask your emotional self, the little girl or little boy inside of you, what would taste yummy. The answer may come in feelings, knowings, words, or images. Be quiet, receive, and honor the answer or answers.

If you do not hear and receive answers, this means your critical, judgmental self is stopping you from connecting with your emotional self. Also, notice what you do if you receive an answer and do not honor it. Could it be that your judgmental self is telling you the answer is not good for you, is incorrect or not healthy?

Listening to yourself and others grows delicious sweet corn. You relate more effectively with others and they enjoy your company. You relate better with yourself so your emotional self and body are happy and healthy instead of resisting you and foiling your plans.

I love Tesla. Maybe it is because he was never a good businessman and suffered greatly from his genus! I learned to feel sorry for people, just like everyone else, and his story of being so alone, and so poor, in NYC, with only pigeons as friends, breaks my heart.

Compare Nikola Tesla with Thomas Edison who was a great businessman. Tesla was by and far the greatest genius; Edison was by and far the greatest businessman. Edison lived in his Florida mansion on the waterfront, side by side, with Henry Ford. Ah, another businessman, and they both had wives.

What do we learn from these successful business men? It pays to be connected to people. Partnering with others is the way to profit from your ideas. But even more important than profits is your mental health. You must be connected to other people in some real, honest way in order to be mentally healthy.

What is common sense?

Common sense is the ability to come up with a sound decision based on a realistic perception of a situation or facts.

You have plenty of innate common sense and can use your common sense to make your life effective, which is the opposite of dysfunctional. To use your common sense you must not listen to what others tell you you should do and should not do.

When you are in touch with your common sense you make good, sound decisions. You know when someone or something does not feel good, right, or correct. Even if you are taking an effective home study course or following the instructions given by a knowledgeable holistic psychologist you must use your own common sense.

For example, I often recommend Color and Sound Therapy to help you move through emotional and physical issues. However, you can over do it! You can use too much color or sound, giving you negative results. This would only occur if you are listening to the should and should nots in your head. Your common sense would tell you enough is enough!

Perhaps you misunderstood the instructions, maybe you are more sensitive to color and sound than others, or maybe the instructor didn’t think of everything. It could also be that your ego is pushing you to do more, and more, and more! Your bully ego is often the problem.

When your sneaky ego dominates you, you do not have access to your common sense. Your common sense makes sure you get positive results no matter what you do and how you do it. You can learn from any experience, and feel empowered, no matter what happens.

The difference between using your common sense and being controlled by should and should nots is the difference between holistic health and mental illness. When you listen to the should and should nots in your head that you learned from others, you are headed toward depression, anxiety, and NO vibrant moments.

Depressed energy can move. Anxious energy can slow down and you can get in touch with your authentic self’s energy. When you fall into your authentic self and allow your energy to relax and be natural, you give up depression and anxiety. This is an awesome physical experience and creates a vibrant moment or two.

What color do you need the most?

Close your eyes and ask your body what color it needs. See what color comes to you. You may see the needed color streaming through your inner vision, hear the name of the color spoken out loud, or maybe your intuitive self gives you the information in yet another format.

If no color seems to stand out, use white. White has all the colors in it and is always a safe bundle of vibrations to use in Color Therapy. Take three deep, belly breaths to relax and slow down your brain and nervous system. Make your breaths slow and deep, like you did when you were a baby, without thinking about what you are doing. Three deep breaths are enough to get you in Alpha brain waves.

With your eyes still closed, visualize the color your body says it needs in a small cloud in front of your eyes. Slowly breathe in the cloud of color into your nose and send it down to the bottom of your spine. Hold your breath for a few seconds while at the bottom of your spine. Next, slowly exhale the color cloud. Notice what color the cloud is when it leaves your body.

The color you need and how clear the color is when it comes out gives you helpful information about your health and wellness.

One of the major differences is a holistic psychologist works with all of you. Where are you stuck?
Can you tell the difference between false beliefs and truth?

Frequently, in holistic psychology sessions with my clients, I sense and feel a woman or man to be in a physical state of energy that is different from where he or she thinks they are. This is the reason it is so reliable and effective to use energy as the basis of the new, holistic psychology. The truth is easy to know when you learn to read and sense the information in physical and emotional energy.

For example, I hear a very harmonious male voice telling me that he is anxious and fearful and had a terrible week. His words do not fit his energy. His mental perception does not match up with his physical and emotional truth.

Or, I hear a woman tell me that she is doing great, everything is fine, and she sounds very depressed and miserable. Her mental perception has no basis in reality. Her energy is down and out, no matter what her thoughts are telling her, or what her words say to me.

In both these cases, the ego energy is reversing reality so the client does not know the truth. The man’s ego energy is telling him a false belief about his success in the hope of keeping him in control. The woman’s ego is telling her a false belief about her lack of success in the hope of keeping her in control.

You are full of false beliefs you learned from religions, governments, and parents. These false beliefs keep you stuck and controlled. You must know the difference between a false belief and the truth if you want to achieve self-esteem, be successful, and enjoy life.

You cannot stand in false beliefs and be successful. Only when you stand in reality can you manifest what you want in life. If you are a psychologist, coach, or therapist you need to know how to read energy so you teach your clients how to read energy. I teach my clients to read energy so they know when their ego is reversing reality and when they are standing in their truth.

Armed with this knowledge, they have the means with which they can become effective and successful. When you discover a reversal of reality that is fooling you, rejoice! You can learn how to break free from your false belief so you stand in your truth.

No matter what your truth is, you move forward immediately becoming stronger and more self-confident.

I received a question this week from a reader about how to deal with impatience and irritability.

How often do you get impatient? And with whom?
How often to you get irritable? And with whom?

It is always helpful to notice the energy of what you are experiencing first before you take action steps to change the energy. Using energy as a feedback tool is what sets the New Psychology apart from all the other psychological approaches. If you want to know more about who you are and what you are experiencing you must become more aware of your energy.

Are you really impatient or do you just think you are impatient?

Sometimes, the sneaky ego tells you that you are impatient and you are not. I notice this quite often with my clients. For example, this is what I hear, “Please, help me today with my meanness. I was so impatient with my mother this week.”

Because I read energy, even on the phone, I immediately distrusted my clients view of herself being “mean.” My client is highly sensitive, so, I asked her to tell me more details about what happened and what she did that was so unkind to her mother.

Sure enough, after I heard the whole story, it was clear she had not been impatient and mean with her mother. She was reserving reality. Her mother had been insensitive to her.

It is conceivable that you have the same misperception about your behavior. Perhaps you do not really feel impatient but think that you do. Maybe you are not behaving in an irritable way with people. Instead of impatience, you may feel resentment, anger, fear, or hurt.

Maybe something really important is going on underneath the energy you call impatience. Perchance your irritability is a sign you are not taking care of yourself. Could it be you need to be more assertive?

So, the first thing you need to do is notice the energy of what you are experiencing. It is mental or physical? Or emotional? Is it too fast, too slow? Is it weak, strong? Dark or light? Notice the weight, color, and texture. Are you in your ego or in your heart?

Learning to read energy is an essential skill for a holistic psychologist, therapist, coach, parent, and successful person. Ok, you are paying attention to your energy. Now what?

Next, you must look underneath the surface energy. Look deep into your heart. You want to see, hear, smell, taste, feel what is going on with your emotional self. You do not want to accept what your head and brain tell you without getting the concrete data you need to know your truth.

You want to feel the authentic energy directly so you know what is really going on inside of you. You could be upset about something that is really occurring. What if you became aware of an unhealthy relationship dynamic that you need to do something about?

That was the case with my client who thought she was mean to her mother. Underneath her perception that she was being mean to her mother was a mother who was judgmental toward her daughter’s new, healthy, assertive behaviors.

When you look under the surface you find your inner truths. Also, you learn how you are defined, controlled, confused, and manipulated by others. Most people and parents do not consciously define, control, confuse, and manipulate you. They are just passing on what they learned from their parents.

Nevertheless, it certainly empowers you if you know you are letting others define, control, confuse, and manipulate you! Then, you can learn to be assertive which results in healthier relationships and increased self-confidence. My mother signed every card she sent me with “Bless you.” Sometimes, it was even “God bless you.” As a young psychologist, I did not like her religious tones and words. I threw her blessings into the trash in my Center City, Philadelphia home with irritation and disapproval.

As an older, wiser, holistic psychologist I write “Bless you.” and “Bless your heart” at the end of some of my emails. My 86-year-old mother has heard me say many times to her in the last decade, “Thank you mother for blessing me all those years. It finally paid off!”

“Mother, I am so grateful for your blessings. You are so smart. How did you know blessing me was the thing to do?” Mother gently replies, “I don’t know, I just knew to bless you and all that I love.”
