The first professional development workshop I attended to learn how to sense human energy was in New Jersey, USA in 1980. The teacher began by teaching us how to sense and feel the energy in our hands. I could feel a few tingles between my hands so this was fun and exciting. I was having a good time opening up to new possibilities.
Next, she had us pair up with a partner. We were to put our hands close together and see if we could sense the energy between our hands and the other person’s hands.
The moment I felt strong energy flowing between my hands and the other woman’s hands my body automatically backed away from her. I quickly pulled my hands away from her hands and stepped outside of the energetic connection with her.
The reason my body responded this way was because I was scared. I was surprised that I felt such a strong force and when I felt this amazing energy between me and another person, I experienced fear.
Since this first professional development workshop, I have studied with many master energy teachers developing and improving my ability to feel and read energy. My fear of feeling human energy has transformed into a desire to feel more and more.
Now, in 2012, it is difficult for me to remember that most people do not feel and sense the energy that is inside of them and around them everyday, all day long, automatically and naturally.
The benefits of sensing human energy are so numerous that I will just mention the number one benefit I have received over the years. Self-esteem. Being able to sense energy has dramatically improved my self-esteem in my personal life as well as my professional life.
When you can sense, feel and read energy, it increases your self-confidence. You have more self-confidence in what you are doing, how you are relating and who you are. You know what is really going on with you and with others.
For example, you can tell when you are defensive and when others are defensive. A partner or client can attack you, accuse you and say you are being defensive. Is this true or not?
Once you can feel and read body energy, the difference between defensive energy and non-defensive energy is easy to recognize. All you have to do is check in with your body energy and see if you are being defensive or not. If you are being defensive, then you can relax, let go and give up your defensiveness.
If you are not being defensive, you can smile an inner smile and know that you are not the problem. The other person is sending you his or her defensive energy and you can stay grounded and feel emotionally secure within yourself. Your self-esteem is solid, you do not have to react or defend yourself.
To have enough self-esteem to allow another person to be defensive without reacting or interfering with their denial is a wonderful personal growth achievement. You can hold your ground and protect yourself until their defensive storm passes.
