Are you the same color this year as last?
Are you becoming more open or stuck in one place?

Colors, just like emotions, do not stay stuck in
one place.

This means your relationship to color is constantly
changing.  Your relationship to color can change at a
moment’s notice just like your emotions suddenly
change and rearrange.

As a matter of fact, your relationship to color changes
dramatically depending on how much you are changing
emotionally and physically.  If you are becoming more
open and healthier your relationship to color changes.

Last week I told you I was red.  In the last six months
my relationship to red has changed dramatically.

In February I developed a red rash on my abdomen while
I was in Glenwood Springs, Colorado swimming in the
world’s largest outdoor hot springs pool.  I have been
swimming in these healing waters for 18 years.

The high sulfur content in the warm, therapeutic pool
always helps me clean away my toxins.  However, this
year my skin did not seem happy with the heat.

I was trying to heal the rash each night with my
smoothing tea tree oil.  Tea tree oil usually takes care
of most problems my sensitive, delicate skin develops.
Tea tree oil was not helping.

I tried Vitamin E, aloe, castor oil. Nothing was improving
the rash. So, I swam in the cooler part of the gigantic
pool and stayed out of the hot, hot water which I love.
Still the rash persisted.

One night, I put on my red pajamas and something did not
feel right.  I wanted to take off my soft, red shirt
immediately. So I quickly took off my red top. I felt
better as soon as the red was off my skin.

At first I was not sure what was happening.  After a few
nights, it was clear.  The color red make the rash more
unpleasant and I could not bear the intensity of red
against my skin.

I switched to white pajamas.  This color was the only one
I could tolerate against my skin.  I tried to wear my
favorite red pjs again the next week. I had the same
unpleasant reaction. So I stayed with white. The rash
cleared up in a few weeks.

Red was the dominant color in my wardrobe.  I loved red,
wore red and needed red.  Suddenly my relationship to
red was changing dramatically. I could not tolerate its
intensity.

Now, four months later I just noticed this morning that
the two pair of shoes I wore yesterday were bright,
beautiful turquoise.

I have been craving blue, wearing blue and needing blue.
I have not worn any of those red clothes I own since
February.  Blue is the color I am wearing most often.

Over the course of the last six months, the back of my
throat chakra has been opening.  As a result of this
dramatic, intense shift, my entire relationship to red
has changed.  My relationship to blue has also
dramatically changed.

Pay attention to your relationship to each color and what
it means. Get to know more about how open and closed your
chakras are.

Be Careful.  Do not use too much color all at once. Like
eating, it is not healthy to put too much on your plate.
Slow down to feel more.  You need to learn to feel subtle
vibrations.  Take a very small bite of color and chew well.
Do not add more color until you know what it is doing to
your mind-body.

For Parents:  Use Color Therapy with your children to
keep them healthy and strong.  Color Therapy is a great way
to keep them from getting depressed and anxious. If they
are already depressed or anxious, use Sound and Color
Therapy to help them return to health.

For Professionals: If you do not use Sound and Color
Therapy, consider adding it to your tool box. Color and
sound are powerful, effective, safe ways to shift your
unhealthy energy to healthy energy. Then you can teach
your clients how to do the same.

Do you notice how color affects you during the day?
Do you know which color you need?

Color is a powerful tool you can use in your daily
life to feel better emotionally. You can use color to
relax your nerves and help you get through a difficult
situation with more ease.

The proper use of color can improve your mental,
emotional and physical health.

Some of us know that the future psychology and medicine
will primarily use color, light, sound and energy to
heal people.

Color is a civilized, safe, effective method that you
can use today to prevent physical and mental problems
and improve the ones that already exist.

To get started you need to increase your color
awareness.

For example, what is your dominant color? Do you know?
Is it your favorite color?  Maybe. Maybe not.

A simple way to get to know your dominant color is to
take a look at your wardrobe. What is the dominant
color in your washing machine? What is the dominant
color in your closet? What is the color that you wear
most often?

This is your color. Write down your color. Get to know
the information in your color by paying attention to its
vibrations. Learn what your color tells you about you.

My color was red for years upon years. I even had a red
door and red shutters on my Center City home in
Philadelphia. This was my identity.  I loved red,
needed red and wore red.

Next week I will tell you how my relationship to red has
changed over the last six months.

In the meantime, increase your awareness of color. Get
to know your color.

A young woman I have been coaching reported this week,
“My nervous system is definitely calmer.  My body is more
relaxed and I feel comfortable.”

I asked, “How do you know your nervous system is getting
calmer?”

“I can tell because I used to get upset when the weather
would get really hot and it is really hot here now and
I am not reacting like I used to.”

She used to get very uncomfortable, tightened up her body
and go into an anxiety or panic attack. She did this often,
sometimes several times a day. She often felt anxious and
wired. Many other things, besides hot weather, could
irritate her nervous system and send her into a panic.

Imagine what your nervous system would look like if you
could gently pull it out of your body and take a look at
it without anything else in the way.

Your nerves look like fine-tuned, delicate human-shaped
wires. These tiny wires react to the information in your
inner and outer world.  Your nervous system is an amazing
network that sends electrical signals of information,
instantaneously and continuously, throughout your body
during each moment.

Everyone has an extremely sensitive nervous system. However,
some empathic children and adults have a nervous system
that is much more receptive and responsive than others.

I asked my client, “So, how did you react differently this
week when the weather got really hot?”

“I found myself reassuring myself that it was not THAT hot.”
We both laughed. Then she continued.

“So I had a nice ride into the office. However, when I got
to the office it seemed too hot and stuffy. I was afraid the
air conditioner was broken.  So I checked to see what the
real situation was and it did seem too hot. I called the
maintenance people for help. A vent was closed and he fixed
it. I had a nice day and got a lot of work done.”

Wow!  We celebrated her success. I left her with the homework
assignment of continuing to celebrate her success.  I want
her to take genuine pride in her accomplishments and
experience as much joy as possible.

What does it take for you to be genuinely happy and healthy?
What is the essence of what you need to know to be effective?

In 2002 at a conference in Mankato, a woman came up to say
hello to me after my workshop, “New and Exciting Ways to
Heal Your Mind and Body.” I did not recognize her.  She
reminded me that she was a client I had worked with 20 years
earlier in Philadelphia!

After our enthusiastic hugs, she offered to tell me the one
thing that had helped her the most that she learned from our
work together. Quickly, I shook my head, eager to hear this
precious gift of feedback.

She touched her heart and said, “You taught me the difference
between how power feels in my body and how control feels in my body.
I use it to this day to know the difference.”

Wow! In the early 1980’s, when this woman was my client, I
was just beginning to develop my new body-emotional-energy
approach.  This was the best outcome data I could have
received.

Breaking away from the traditional models of psychology had
been difficult and scary all along the way for me. So her words
were like music to my ears.

Her feedback reveals the essence of what you need to learn in
order to become powerful and effective.

You need to know the difference between control and power. Then
you need to be able to feel this difference in your own body.

You need to know what control feels like in your body because it
is unhealthy for you.  No matter what you think, say or do,
controlling energy is stagnant.  Stagnant energy makes you miserable
and sick.

You also need to know what real power feels like in your body
because it is healthy for you. Power is flowing energy. Flowing
energy, no matter what you think, say or do, makes you healthy
and happy.

Being able to sense and feel this difference, puts the healthy part
of you in the driver’s seat. The unhealthy part of you, cannot fool
you any more.

If you are a psychologist, massage therapist or coach: Learn the
difference between control and power. Then learn to feel this
difference in your own body. Soon, you will not be fooled by your
clients’ reactions, defensiveness and manipulations.  Otherwise, you
may react to your clients’ control issues and get entangled in
unhealthy relationship dynamics.

If you are a parent: Wouldn’t it be great if you could teach your
child to know what is healthy for her and what is not healthy for
her by how it feels in her own body? Her self esteem would skyrocket.
Children learn by modeling your behavior. Show them the way.

The mind is a funny thing. It can be brilliant or it can
be deadly.

If you do not tame your thoughts and bring them into
balance with your body, heart and soul, your brain can
scare you to death. It can also obsess about nonsense,
create misery and keep you totally out of the moment.

One single thought can give your whole body and nervous
system a serious shock. I would say the voltage of one
thought I had this week while standing at my kitchen window
was stronger than the electric shock I used to get when I
touched the electric cow fence on my farm as a child by
mistake.

Honestly, I cannot even remember exactly what the thought
was, but it was not pretty, loving or kind. It shocked me
right out of the moment. I noticed the shock to my nervous
system and brought myself back into the physical. So I was
back to breathing and feeling in seconds.

However, this shocking experience reminded me of the strength,
power and energy of my thoughts. I know how outside factors
affect my mind so I do not watch television and I am very
careful of the movie images I feed it.

However, since the Japanese earthquake I have been reading
the online news more than usual. In addition, with Bin
Laden’s dramatic death there are many images of violence
around me.

The thought that flashed without invitation in my mind seemed
to be a creative take off of some of these scenes I had been
looking at online. Our minds are powerful AND creative!

If you are a parent:  Notice your own thoughts and how they
affect you and your child. Also know that your children are
affected by the images they see in the news, television,
movies and games.

If you are a psychologist, massage therapist or coach:  Do not
encourage obsessive thinking with your clients.  When you let
your clients talk and talk about the same thing you are
reinforcing this behavior and making sure they obsess. Instead,
help your clients sense the energy of their obsessions. Teach
them to sense the energy of their thoughts as separate from
their feelings. Then teach them how to stop repeating the same
thoughts over and over again.

Spring clean your mind by getting rid of rotten thoughts that
have accumulated over the winter and years. It will
free up more room for health and happiness.

Here are some thoughts about when a soul decides
to leave the material confines of the body and earth.

What I suggest may be true and it may not be true.
However keep an open mind and see if it fits you
and your experience.

I am comforted by the thought that the soul does make
the decision when to pass over and that nothing is a true
accident. The result is, I can relax and let my soul lead
the way.

My focus changes, my job is not to fret or be scared about
when I am going to pass over. Nope, my job is to listen
to my soul and follow.

So how do you listen to your soul?

Emotions are the pathway to your soul. Last week I was
sad about other people passing over. Sadness is a soul
quality, it is not depression. Sadness is a real emotion
that feeds the soul and makes life deep, rich and
meaningful.

The closest I have ever felt to another human being
was in deep, profound sadness. Soul to soul.

The energy of sadness needs to move through you to
nourish your cells and feed your soul. If you deny or
exaggerate your sadness it will cause you serious problems
in the future. This is because the sad energy will get
stuck somewhere in your body and create stagnation.

If you depress or avoid your sadness you create mental,
emotional and physical problems.

Anxiety Missing? New Year Resolutions for Relaxation

See yourself at the end of 2008:

Looking in the mirror you see a difference between last and this year. You are proud of yourself and feel all warm inside because you have less anxiety.  You look much more relaxed.

You did take action and you got results. You feel good and look strong, happy and secure in the mirror.

You know you deserve to be strong, happy and secure.

Now it is the beginning of 2008:

If your physical body and emotional body do not reflect back to you
–a big difference from the body and emotions you had last year–
this means you are not becoming stronger.

Each year needs to be a step forward toward your purpose in life.

Self improvement is not permanent until your physical body reflects
changes in the mirror.

You may think you have changed, but if you cannot see a difference in
the mirror, the energy is not there. You must see your body
radiate out more love and light when you look in the mirror or
you have not changed.

In addition, you want to feel better, not just look better!

Take a loving look at yourself in the mirror.

Do not waste your precious life another moment in
mundaneness and ordinary consciousness.

You have innate talents, skills and abilities
which need to be used for the highest good.

If you are not using them, they are being wasted.

Emotional health is not achieved until your body relaxes to
allow more vibrant energy to flow though your flesh.

You are incarnate after all!

The way to get more juicy energy flowing
through your body is to let go of old, thought patterns,
false beliefs, projections and conditioned responses.

Then peak experiences and vibrant moments happen au natural.

Your body reveals the truth about your thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Your body does not have the ability to lie. Listen to

Review this last year with love, laughter and kindness toward the self.

Control is anything you use to avoid reality at any given moment in time.
You may have the best intentions in the world, such as becoming healthier
and happier, and still end up controlling yourself.

For example, if you are in therapy or some healing process, you might say
to yourself, “I have to heal myself. I have to become healthy. I have to
do it this way, to do it the right way.”

You end up doing the things you “should” do or are “supposed” to do,
to heal yourself. Whether your goal is to be more spiritual, or to control
your diet, or control your exercise. The result is you are making yourself
be a certain way. You are in a state of unhealthy control when you must
exercise a certain way or eat in a certain way.

You begin to recognize control by the energy behind your words, actions
and behaviors. You cannot recognize control by the content. The content
is full of lies, which your ego tells you. Words lie. Energy does not.

This is the reason I teach you to pay attention to your
energy and to learn to tell the difference in healthy energy and controlling
energy so you can stand in your power with your family and friends.

Is It Healthy Emotional Flow or It Is Unhealthy Ego Control?

Let me say more about control so you begin to see control for what it is. Control is anything you use to avoid reality at any given moment in time. You may have the best intentions in the world, such as becoming healthier and happier, and still end up controlling yourself.

For example, if you are in therapy or some healing process, you might say to yourself, “I have to heal myself. I have to become healthy. I have to do it this way, to do it the right way.”

You end up doing the things you “should” do or are “supposed” to do, to heal yourself. Whether your goal is to be more spiritual, or to control your diet, or control your exercise. The result is you are making yourself be a certain way. You are in a state of unhealthy control when you must exercise a certain way or eat in a certain way.

You begin to recognize control by the energy behind your words, actions and behaviors. You cannot recognize control by the content. The content is full of lies, which your ego tells you. Words lie. Energy does not.

Control is a mechanism you use to force yourself to go too fast or too slow. Or in a certain direction you don’t really want to go. You begin to notice control by the feel of the energy and not by the content.

Your ego may say to you,” Let’s go swimming tonight.” You think to yourself, “Do I feel like going swimming tonight? “ Your ego says, “You know how much you love to go swimming.” “Yes, I love swimming more than anything else in the world.” Yet, when you pay attention to yourself, you notice, “ I don’t feel like going swimming tonight.” The ego insists,” Oh yes, you do!”

As you can see, the way you control yourself can be very subtle and insidious. Begin to notice your ego by its controlling energy so you stop letting it ruin your life. Another example is when you pretend your feelings are not hurt when they really are hurt. Or you pretend you are not afraid, when you really are afraid.

In addition, you can exaggerate you are more upset than you really are. You can react to something as if it was the worst thing in the world and it really isn’t the worst thing in the world. You just act like it is the worse thing in the world. This is your ego over reacting.

When I was developing an equal and loving relationship with my mother, she turned whatever I bought up to her about my past hurt feelings against herself. She said, “Oh, what a terrible mother I am. What a horrible mother I was to you,” which, of course, was not true. I was not saying she was a terrible mother, I just wanted to express how I felt to her and be listened to. My mother’s behavior completely avoided the real situation with me.

What I needed was a real mother to relate to me as a real child. When my mother attacked herself, she was copping out on me. She was not taking responsibility for herself. She was saying what a terrible mother she was, instead of meeting me as an equal and dealing with how I had felt hurt and betrayed by her.

My mother did not say, ”I didn’t know you felt this way. I am sorry. Let’s deal with this. Let’s relate to each other and come to know each other.” Thanks goodness, we were able to cry together and see each other’s point of view in a year or so.

Healthy emotional flow is the result of resolving your past hurts and traumas. You achieve health by giving up control. Instead, accept and be your real self. Your real self has plenty of vital, colorful energy flow. More than enough, to jump up and down, with joy.
