Often I remind you how important it is to use relaxation therapy until you have a reliable, dependable relaxation response at your fingertips.  Yes, it is imperative that you have the ability to achieve a calm and still state so your body and nerves can receive the healthy energy you need from the outside world.

However, relaxation is not enough.

You also need to be able to get fully excited in your whole body.

You must get excited in order to charge your bodily systems with positive, vital energy.  Getting excited is what gives your body the fuel it needs to reach holistic health.  Daily doses of vital energy are essential if you want to achieve good mental health and physical strength.

However, one of the obstacles I have noticed over the 36 years I have been helping people is that many are afraid of getting excited.  As people go through the transformation process toward self-actualization, they get stuck because they do not want to get turned on and passionate about anything. It is too scary.

Take inventory of yourself.

Are you comfortable when you get excited?
Do you ignore your passions?
Are you afraid to let go of control?
Do your desires scare you?

Depression is the opposite of excitement.  Are you so afraid of your passions and excitement that you depress your energy?

Anxiety is what you feel as you become excited.  Are you able to move pass your irrational thoughts, Killjoy Monsters and Inner Critics to the open free vibrant moments of being alive?

If you want holistic health, you must allow yourself to get fully excited. When you are excited, you feel tingles of energy moving through your body.  You get goosebumps as your skin and nervous system respond to the pleasurable energy being received.

When you experience goosebumps, you are living in a vibrant moment.  Vibrant moments are full of strong, emotional energy. This potent energy automatically gives you holistic health. Happiness is the natural side effect you receive because it feels so good to be alive and full of energy.

Spring energy is exciting, fun and joyful.

In the Northern Hemisphere, use the spring energy all around you to fuel your fire so you get excited.  In the Southern Hemisphere, use your imagination to fuel your fire for holistic health.

Resonate with spring energy.  Feel the ing in the spring.  Feel the excitement of Mother Earth as she wakes up. Feel the excitement in you as you wake up.

How many times a day do you say kind things to your body?
Do you check in daily to see what your emotional self needs?

If you ignore, reject and hate your body, you will get one set of results. If you love your body and take care of it, you will get another set of results.

If you hate your emotions when they surface and wish you did not feel that way, you will get one set of results.  If you take positive actions as a result of the vital information you receive from your emotional self, you will get another set of results.

Health and wellness are not accidents. Disease and sickness do not occur as random acts of probability.  Health and wellness are direct results of certain well-defined factors.
One of the most important factors, and a factor that you have complete mastery over is how much you love yourself.

If you listen to your emotions, you will discover exactly what you need to do differently in order to meet your emotional needs. If you don’t meet your emotional needs, there is no way you can achieve health and wellness or happiness and self-actualization.

Loving yourself is often considered hokey, unfashionable, silly or down right sinful.  Yes, most religions and many judgmental parents teach you to hate your body and ignore your emotional needs.

You have been taught that:
“You are a terrible sinner.”
“Your body is dirty.”
“Sex is sinful.”
“Your emotional needs are not important, get over it.”
“Just stop being afraid and do it.”

However, no matter what others have taught you, natural law prevails. Self-acceptance is the only way you will ever reach holistic health and wellness.  Self-rejection will always result in a lack of mental health and emotional health.

What are your feelings toward Mother Earth?
How intimate are you with her?

We have a U.S. Senator, Gaylord Nelson, to thank for raising the consciousness of Americans about their relationship to Mother Earth.  Gaylord’s continued environmental efforts finally paid off in 1970, when his nationwide protest called National Earth Day, received amazing support.  An estimated 20 million people took to the streets and parks willing to stand up for Mother Earth.

Since I grew up on a self-sustaining, 300 acre farm in North Carolina, I was not aware that so many Americans were disconnected from nature. Therefore, I did not realize how important Earth Day was until five years later when I ended up in Center City, Philadelphia surrounded by anxious people rushing to and from work every day.

The anxious people that came to my office to receive Relaxation Therapy and Assertiveness Training slowed down. I taught men and women how to stop rushing to and from their work so their blood pressure could return to normal. The clients who received the most positive results, were the ones who learned to relax their physical body and feel their emotional feelings.

The more I researched what worked and what did not work in terms of anxiety, depression and other mental health problems, the more I realized how disconnected most humans were from their own physical body. Everyone was in their head, thinking.

Therefore, my goal as a clinical psychologist and sex therapist became clear:  getting people out of their heads into their body.  That was when my new holistic psychology approach began to really take off.  I began to work in nature, exploring more effective ways of helping people.  I did my first Nature Workshop in 1984.

It is a fact that people are more relaxed in nature. The only exception is someone with a history of abuse that is associated with nature.  Forest, river or beach scenes are always picked as relaxing, by both men and women.  I began to understand how essential a physical connection to Mother Earth is for humans.

Some traditional psychologists understand that it is unhealthy for a child to be disconnected physically from his mother.  This is called “Attachment.” Without a healthy attachment to your mother, you cannot grow into an emotionally mature person who can connect and be close to other people.  Without a healthy attachment to some loving adult, you have trouble with relationships, intimacy, love making and self-esteem.

Therefore, I can say, with absolute certainty, that any type of mental health problem is the direct result of being disconnected.  To feel emotionally secure, you must have a physical connection with your human mother or some other loving person.  To feel physically secure, you must have a physical connection to Mother Earth.

Being disconnected causes mental, emotional and physical health problems.  An attachment problem can be overcome by learning how to connect with Mother Earth.  Holistic health can be achieved as an adult–no matter what was lacking in your past learning history.

At a time when everyone’s eyes are on the future of the Catholic Church, you could use its colorful history to your advantage for personal growth.  For example, let’s take the color green. Why not be charmed by the color green on St. Patrick’s Day, 2013?

St. Patrick gained his claim to fame by bringing Christianity to the United Kingdom.  For the moment, we will forgive him for destroying the culture of the Celts and focus on the positive aspects of this worldwide holiday.

The first official celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in the United States occurred in Morristown, New Jersey in 1780. (This is just across the river from my home in Center City, Philadelphia, the undisputed home of revolutionary causes.)

The first St. Patrick’s Day celebration was authorized by George Washington, America’s first president.  Today St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by the Irish as well as many other Americans with parades, parties, wearing of green, Irish songs and jigs.  The jigs are my favorite.

Center City, Philadelphia becomes full of lively, green energy beginning early in the morning with the St. Patrick’s Day parade and ending late in the evening with the jigs occurring in the bars and on the streets.  As soon as I wake up, the streets of green are visible from the windows of my home.

The reason people wear green on St. Patrick’s day is to represent the lushness of Ireland, which truly is the Emerald Isle.  So green, especially emerald green, is the color you could get to know more intimately.  Use St. Patty’s Day to expand your physical knowledge of green vibrations and the use color therapy for healing and personal growth.

Pay attention to the physical vibrations of green. Notice the green around you. Wear green, look at green and use green to heal some of your emotional and physical wounds.

Green is a very healing color. I am not going to tell you what green means and is. That is not how I teach color therapy.  You need to get to know green directly without having someone else tell you what green vibrations can do for you.

Wear lots of green this week for your St. Patrick’s Day celebration and notice the concrete, physical effects.  Don’t forget the cabbage and leprechauns!

What kind of experiences have you had in your life that you would put into the metaphysical category?

Readers of “The Vibrant Moment” ranked metaphysics as the second-most desirable topic to know more about, just behind physics.  Currently, metaphysics is very difficult to define.  After all, this entire area of study has changed dramatically since the Greeks first defined it at a time in history when Zeus ruled the world with thunder bolts.

Metaphysics used to be a central part of academic inquiry and scholarly education even before the age of Aristotle, who considered it “the Queen of Sciences.”  Metaphysics was equal in importance to the subjects of physical science, medicine, mathematics, poetry and music.

And my, how things have changed. Poetry and music are not taught at many of our schools across the country in USA and neither is metaphysics.  It seems that many academic types currently look down their nose at that which they cannot see.

However, since Albert Einstein’s Metaphysics of Relativity, wise people have expanded their consciousness to include the many new realities that had previously been unseen and unknown.  As a result, that which was once metaphysics is now considered to be part of physics.

So, even though many in the traditional scientific community would like you to continue to deny, depress and ignore these realities, it is not in your best interest to do so.  If you want to be happy and healthy, you need to value and honor any personal experiences you have had that cannot be explained by the current rigid, outdated scientific paradigm.

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits to studying and following the laws of metaphysics.

A person who successfully uses the laws of metaphysics will experience:

– Improved self-esteem and self-confidence.
– Healthier relationships to other people, plants and objects.
– The joy of attracting more money.
– Choosing goals that feel good.
– Reaching goals that satisfy.

So how would I define metaphysics?  The realities that exist and have always existed since time out of mind. The realities that the ancient Greeks knew more about than humans in 2012.
