Suddenly, your partner is not interested in you anymore.
You lose your best friend or most valuable possession.
You fall in love with a married woman.

Life events often bring deep pain.

There are moments when everything hurts, everything you believed in and trusted is not valid anymore and your life is turned upside down by someone else’s decision.

Loss of anything you love is extremely painful. Change hurts and it will never go away.

What do you need to do when you experience loss, pain, hurt and sorrow?

You need to stay with yourself and feel the truth of what is happening to you.  You need to put at the top of your “to do” list– feeling your authentic emotions.

Do not let anything else get in your way between you and your emotional truth.  If you feel your loss, you will not suffer from the “broken heart syndrome” and create heart disease.

Of course, you need to continue to do what you need to do to take care of yourself, your business and your responsibilities. Then stop and feel your emotions at the end of the day.

Take the time to listen, feel, write and feel some more. You must learn to stay with your emotional self if you want to be self-confident, healthy and strong.

You also need to remember that there is a huge difference between “feeling sorry” for yourself and feeling your authentic pain. When you feel sorry for yourself, you do not feel better afterwards.

However, if you stay with yourself emotionally you will feel your authentic hurt and you will definitely feel better afterwards.  If you keep breathing and feeling, you will tap into the many losses you have had along the way.  If you keep going deeper into your emotional truth, you will even tap into your original loss.

Your original wound is the first time you got hurt as a young child. This is the source of your current pain and it is the emotional wound you need to heal in order to become stronger and more resilient.

You do not have to continue to suffer because you act out your original pain throughout your life in your relationships. This acting out behavior is what creates poor health. Instead, you can feel your loss and let your hurt move out of your body. The more you feel your pain, the more it will leave your body and your life.

After your original hurt is healed, you will feel more self-confident and emotionally secure in all your relationships.  You will enjoy more abundant health, feel more alive and have many more vibrant moments.

Last night I read about another new study that explains how expressing emotions is good for your health.

Researchers at the University of Jena in Germany found that getting your anger out and being hot-tempered is actually helpful in extending your lifespan.

The study authors said that their research may even offer evidence to support the fact that the more expressive Mediterranean people of Europe live longer than northerners.

Please note that the reason Mediterranean people live longer may not be the Mediterranean diet.  The real reason may be the Mediterranean culture that allows and encourages people to be emotionally expressive.

Six thousand participants took part in the investigation to see what holding back one’s emotions can do to health.  The researchers found that those who repressed their feelings were at risk for developing diseases.

How? Internalizing strong emotions raised the pulse rate of participants.   This physical body reaction over time leads to heart disease, cancer and other physical problems.

Please note how blocking your emotions effects your physical body. When you do not let yourself feel your authentic emotions, you get physically sick.

According to the Medical Daily, the people who block their emotions “are distinguished by the way that they attempt to conceal outward signs of fear, and also by their defensive behavior,” said study author Marcus Mund. “They avoid risks and always seek a high level of control over themselves and their surroundings,” he added.

What do you need to do to be physically and mentally healthy in the upcoming New Year? Feel your authentic emotions. This means you must let go of control over yourself and feel what you really feel.

Make a New Year’s Resolution to get the education and help you need to feel your emotions.  If you are in the habit of  repressing, denying and ignoring your emotions, you need to learn the new behavior of expressing your emotions.

You must unlearn your automatic behavior of blocking your emotions which is damaging your body and could be killing you. Then you need to feel and express your emotions in effective, life-enhancing ways.

Recent research has found that the physical human heart can be immediately damaged by relationship loss, pain and hurt.  It is exciting that the scientific community has documented a direct connection between emotional pain and physical pain.

When your heart is broken and you have a heartache, you are hurt physically and emotionally.  The medical community calls this dual damage the “broken heart syndrome.”

What kind of experiences have you had in your life that you would put into the metaphysical category?

Readers of “The Vibrant Moment” ranked metaphysics as the second-most desirable topic to know more about, just behind physics.  Currently, metaphysics is very difficult to define.  After all, this entire area of study has changed dramatically since the Greeks first defined it at a time in history when Zeus ruled the world with thunder bolts.

Metaphysics used to be a central part of academic inquiry and scholarly education even before the age of Aristotle, who considered it “the Queen of Sciences.”  Metaphysics was equal in importance to the subjects of physical science, medicine, mathematics, poetry and music.

And my, how things have changed. Poetry and music are not taught at many of our schools across the country in USA and neither is metaphysics.  It seems that many academic types currently look down their nose at that which they cannot see.

However, since Albert Einstein’s Metaphysics of Relativity, wise people have expanded their consciousness to include the many new realities that had previously been unseen and unknown.  As a result, that which was once metaphysics is now considered to be part of physics.

So, even though many in the traditional scientific community would like you to continue to deny, depress and ignore these realities, it is not in your best interest to do so.  If you want to be happy and healthy, you need to value and honor any personal experiences you have had that cannot be explained by the current rigid, outdated scientific paradigm.

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits to studying and following the laws of metaphysics.

A person who successfully uses the laws of metaphysics will experience:

– Improved self-esteem and self-confidence.
– Healthier relationships to other people, plants and objects.
– The joy of attracting more money.
– Choosing goals that feel good.

We are exploring how psychologists must begin to use physics and the laws of physics if they want to be successful in helping you live a happier and healthier life on planet Earth.

For example, in my speech, “How to Work Smarter, Not Harder” at the University of Pennsylvania Business Association, I used the second law of thermodynamics.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states, “In all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves the system, the potential energy of the state will always be less than that of the initial state.”

What this means is that you will run out of gas if you don’t add gas.  There is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. You run out of gas just like a car runs out of gas. Energy must be added to you and the car if you want to keep moving forward.

If you want to work smarter, not harder, you need to use the second law of thermodynamics or you will burn out quickly. If you want to be vital, full of energy and happy you must use this law to reach your goals.  If you want to be physically healthy so that your cells have enough energy to flourish, you must honor this law or you will become sick and you could die.

You must fill up your physical body with vital energy on a regular basis throughout your day as needed. If you do not, you will run out of energy so you cannot work to peak performance and you cannot play with joy. This is a law and you cannot trick it or override it.

However, your brain can trick you and override you. Your brain can convince you that you need to keep going and going and going until you are depleted, burned out, tired and sick.

Does your brain push you? Control you? Pressure You? Scare you?

Better learn how to tame your thoughts and listen to your body.  You need to stop thinking and start feeling your body. Your body will tell you exactly when you need more gas.  Start listening to what your body needs every minute of every day to avoid burn out, depression, misery or sickness.

Physics is the number one topic readers of The Vibrant Moment told me in the recent survey that you want to know more about.  I am surprised and pleased to know you are interested in learning how the laws of physics can be used to help you live a happier and healthier life.

As a holistic psychologist it is puzzling to me that traditional psychologists still do not include the physical body when they work with their clients.  Including the human body is one of the major ways the New Psychology is totally different from the therapies that are currently available to you.

After all, the laws of physics apply to the human being just as they do to all the rest of the physical matter that stands, sits, crawls and walks around on planet Earth.

You have a physical body and you live on a physical planet.  Since your body is physical, all the laws of physics govern you 24 hours a day. Ignoring these laws is not wise.

Let’s start with the law that most human beings love to ignore, deny and defy.  The rock solid, bottom-line law of gravity.  Laws work equally on all people and cannot be altered for your convenience. No research is needed to prove a law.

How much time, attention, money and energy do you spend making sure your relationship with gravity is intact and healthy?  Let us examine your personal relationship with gravity right now.

Notice how much of your whole body is pulling up away from the earth, the ground, and the strong pull of gravity. If you are not sure, sense the bottom of your feet. Notice how flat the full surface of your feet and toes are on the ground. Document how effectively your two feet and all 10 toes touch the ground.

To make sure you increase your awareness, feel any part of your body that could be resisting the pull of gravity by tightness up, squeezing, going numb or shrinking.

Some of you may think you are not pulling up and away from gravity, however, I doubt it.  Just now, as I did the exercise with you, some of my right foot was all scrummed up and tight in my warm, winter slippers.

The only humans that I see trusting, falling into, hugging and being one with gravity are babies.  Their little bodies are limp in the pull of gravity and enjoying every minute of this secure physical feeling.  Occasionally I see a few little tots still at ease with the secure hug the pull of gravity provides, but the rest of us come and go.

Pause and consider the law of gravity if you want to improve your emotional health, mental health and physical health.  Know that you cannot reach a vibrant moment, relaxation, peace of mind, joy, reality or transcendental experiences if your body is not safe and secure within the filed of gravity.

I was at jury duty all day yesterday on a homicide case in North Philadelphia. The kind and fair judge excused me from the case based on deduction.  The wise judge deduced that I would not be able to give a fair verdict to the defendant in this case.

His reasoning was that I had suffered from a crime that involved the same weapon as the one I would be hearing about in this new case and therefore would not be able to separate my own personal experience from the facts.

If this judge had been aware of body language and energy flow, he would have known for sure that I would be able to give his defendant a fair trial.  He would have seen with his own eyes my open heart, relaxed body and clear intent. He could have sensed for sure that my verdict would be fair.

If the judge had the ability to ready body language and energy flow, he would not pick the people he was picking to sit in judgment on this young African-American man. The judge was choosing people who were closed-hearted, highly anxious, very depressed and extremely judgmental.

Just imagine how dramatically your world will change when you stop using deduction to know and begin to increase your awareness of the physical energy around you.  The more you perceive the real energy of the world around you, the more powerful you become.

If the judge had the ability to read body language and sense energy, he would have seen that the defendant was not a mean-spirited, insensitive person.  He would also have known that I held no prior prejudice against his defendant. He would have known that I was open to hearing the case against him.

Just imagine how dramatically the world will change when more and more people increase their awareness of the world they live in.
