If you do not have a mess or become a mess, from time to time, then you are stuck in a tiny perfect place of rigidity. Messes are part of the natural process of transformation. While attending a psychology lecture during my graduate school days
at Baylor University, the professor said, “Never expect to make

In the situation above, during an anxiety attack, you are experiencing high anxiety and repetitive thoughts. A part of you is scared and does not feel safe. You are trying to solve your anxiety problem by using your brain and it’s new, positive beliefs. This does not work.

To be effective, you must find the solution hiding out in your heart and body. “What is your emotional self really afraid of? What is her reality? What does she need from you?” It does not matter what you believe or think.

Beliefs do not help you. For example, consider the people who ran to the roof in the World Trade Center during the attacks of 9/11. Due to the in-house, safety trainings they believed they would be saved if they reached the roof. However, all of them died because there were no helicopters on the roof to save them because there was no roof to land on.

If you want to be safe, never, never trust your beliefs. They could be right or wrong at any moment in time. Rules, beliefs, and even what has happened to you in the past will not keep you safe. Your emotional self is smarter and wiser than you are so you need to listen to her and follow her for guidance. Your little girl, who is afraid, is in touch with her body, feelings, emotions, instincts, intuition, and wounds.

If the adult part of you does not have a solid, loving, daily relationship with your emotional self there is no reason your inner child would feel safe and secure. You cannot fool her into thinking she is safe and secure with any belief, information or advice. If you do not have the courage, strength and necessary skills to protect her, she is not safe and secure.

Your inner child can feel you and he knows when you are able and willing to protect him and keep him safe and secure. He also knows when you will betray, judge, neglect, and ignore him. Your emotional self is the one you must find, love, and follow in order to heal your wounds.

Therefore, I suspect that your emotional self knows she is not safe because your authentic self is not taking care of her and protecting her from her real fears. Look and see how your judgmental self is relating to your little girl, who is scared, right this minute.

Getting what you need and want depends on learning how to bypass your brain so you at least know the desires that live in your heart and soul. This means you must question your thoughts.

Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning there are no thoughts in my awareness at all. This is when I am in a vibrant moment, waking up relaxed, rested, and happy. Those are the mornings to cherish.

I am part of the sun light bouncing all around my large, bright room pleasing every cell in my body. Or, I feel the sound of the raining falling endlessly as it hits my wall of glass panes and slowly wriggles it’s way down to the deck. The bright green tree outside looms large above my house and hugs me with her branches no matter what the weather.

Nothing could be more true than what Socrates said. “The unexamined life is not worth living.” A century of learning research by psychologists shows us the reason Socrates’ wisdom is accurate. Any brain that does not question it’s own thoughts, is a brain that has been washed!

Notice how often you react and respond to conditioned responses you learned as a child. If you are like most humans, your behavior is controlled much more than you think by false beliefs and controlling thoughts. Your positive and negative beliefs keep you from getting what you need and want.

Begin in the morning by taking a look at what thoughts are occurring in your brain as soon as you become conscious. Continue throughout the day, examining exactly what you are thinking at many moments along the way. Anytime you do not feel good is a great time to sit down and write down exactly what you are thinking. Yuck.

When you do not feel good, I am sure you will find nasty, judgmental, self-righteous thoughts somewhere in your unconscious. Tame your thoughts to enjoy more vibrant moments.

What is common sense?

Common sense is the ability to come up with a sound decision based on a realistic perception of a situation or facts.

You have plenty of innate common sense and can use your common sense to make your life effective, which is the opposite of dysfunctional. To use your common sense you must not listen to what others tell you you should do and should not do.

When you are in touch with your common sense you make good, sound decisions. You know when someone or something does not feel good, right, or correct. Even if you are taking an effective home study course or following the instructions given by a knowledgeable holistic psychologist you must use your own common sense.

For example, I often recommend Color and Sound Therapy to help you move through emotional and physical issues. However, you can over do it! You can use too much color or sound, giving you negative results. This would only occur if you are listening to the should and should nots in your head. When your sneaky ego dominates you, you do not have access to your common sense. Your common sense makes sure you get positive results no matter what you do and how you do it. You can learn from any experience, and feel empowered, no matter what happens.

The difference between using your common sense and being controlled by should and should nots is the difference between holistic health and mental illness. When you listen to the should and should nots in your head that you learned from others, you are headed toward depression, anxiety, and NO vibrant moments.

Depressed energy can move. Anxious energy can slow down and you can get in touch with your authentic self’s energy. When you fall into your authentic self and allow your energy to relax and be natural, you give up depression and anxiety. This is an awesome physical experience and creates a vibrant moment or two.

Where are you stuck?
Can you tell the difference between false beliefs and truth?

Frequently, in holistic psychology sessions with my clients, I sense and feel a woman or man to be in a physical state of energy that is different from where he or she thinks they are. You are full of false beliefs you learned from religions, governments, and parents. These false beliefs keep you stuck and controlled. You must know the difference between a false belief and the truth if you want to achieve self-esteem, be successful, and enjoy life.

You cannot stand in false beliefs and be successful. Only when you stand in reality can you manifest what you want in life. If you are a psychologist, coach, or therapist you need to know how to read energy so you teach your clients how to read energy. I teach my clients to read energy so they know when their ego is reversing reality and when they are standing in their truth.

It was eight days before Christmas when my heart was broken at the age of 34. I thought I would die and never get over losing my beloved.

How often do you get impatient? And with whom?
How often to you get irritable? And with whom?

Here is part two of the answer to the question from a reader about how to deal with impatience and irritability. Last week I exposed the fact that sometimes you think you are impatient and you are not. Ok, I was just impatient and irritable. For real. Right this moment, before I sat down to write.

I had to bleach clothes that had e coli on them in the washing machine. As a highly sensitive person, I hate bleach, it burns my eyes. Even wearing a pair of yellow rubber gloves I was concerned I could get the toxic chemicals on my shirt or pants. But I was being very, very careful.

After diluting the bleach in the water so it would not totally ruin my clothes, some of the e coli clothes I put in floated up to the top of the water. While pushing the yucky clothes back down into the bleached water, some of the heavily bleached water in the machine got on my right sleeve and dripped down into my right glove. Yee, gads!

Rushing up my steep Center City basement stairs to wash off the bleach, I tripped at the top of the stairs. Back on my feet, I reached the kitchen sink. Pulling at the right glove, to get it off as fast as I could, it would not come off. Yanking at it, pulling and pulling with all my might, I could not get the glove off my hand.

My hand was stuck in the glove with bleach inside and outside of it. This is the moment it happened. Never having gotten my hand stuck in a very, very tight yellow rubber glove before I did not know what to do. My eyes were burning, my hand began to burn due to a cut on my finger. I was trapped. I experienced helplessness.

So, the conditions for impatience, frustration, and irritability are:

1. Something does not go right or turn out like it is suppose to. Your expectations of the outcome are not the results.
2. Your actions to change the results and make them do as you want do not work. You are not being effective.

There you have it. When these conditions exist, you are ripe for getting impatient.

So, you need to notice and admit to yourself that you are impatient. It is you and you alone. No one else is to blame.  If you are blaming someone else for your impatient energy, stop blaming them or any other outside factors. You are the one with the impatient energy and that is that!

Notice your body and how tight it is. What do you feel? What are you experiencing? Notice your thoughts and how fast they are moving and what they are saying to you. Do you want to make any sounds?

I growl, “Erg, Erg, Erg,” clinch my teeth and experience being overwhelmed. My racing thoughts are attacking me, making me wrong, rushing me to do something different and complaining about the results I am getting.
